Information we collect
We collect only the information needed to provide and improve BetterCal. Depending on how you use the app, this may include:
- Account details such as your name and email address.
- Food logs, meals, nutrition information, and saved foods.
- Health and goal information such as weight, activity, calorie targets, and preferences.
- App usage information that helps us understand whether features work as intended.
- Basic device information needed to support and secure the app.
How we use information
We use your information to operate BetterCal: to calculate nutrition, personalize recommendations, remember meals, sync your data across devices, improve reliability, prevent abuse, and respond when you contact support.
We do not use your health information for advertising.
Health data
Your health information belongs to you. BetterCal uses it only to provide the features you choose to use, such as nutrition targets, progress summaries, and personalized insights.
We do not sell health information or use it to build advertising profiles.
AI processing
When you log food by typing or speaking, the description may be processed by trusted AI service providers so BetterCal can identify foods and estimate nutrition. We send only what is needed for that request and retain prompts only as needed to provide and improve the service.
AI estimates can be imperfect. You can review and correct meal details in the app.
Data retention
We keep your information while your account is active and for only as long as needed to provide the service, meet legal obligations, resolve disputes, and protect the service.
When you request account deletion, we immediately soft-delete the account (access ends and the account is marked pending deletion). After a 30-day grace period, we delete or anonymize associated personal information, except where retention is legally required or needed for security and abuse prevention. Details are on our Delete account page.
Data security
We use appropriate technical and organizational safeguards, including encryption in transit and secure infrastructure, to protect your information. No online service can guarantee absolute security, but we continually work to keep BetterCal and your data safe.
Children’s privacy
BetterCal is not directed to children under 13, or the minimum age required in their country. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children below that age. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us so we can remove it.
Your rights and choices
You can review and update much of your information in the app. You may also ask to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, or delete your account.
To delete your account, use Delete account in Profile settings, or follow the steps on bettercalapp.com/delete-account. Deletion uses a soft-delete request and a 30-day grace period before personal data is fully removed.
Depending on where you live, additional rights may apply. Contact us and we will respond to eligible requests in accordance with applicable law.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when BetterCal changes or legal requirements evolve. We will update the date at the top of this page and provide additional notice when a change materially affects your rights.
